Welcome to the Endangered Voices Listening Trail.
If you are here by accident you are all the more welcome.
You are looking for QR codes at each destination shown in photos on the map above. Tap the photo to take a closer look.
When you find the destination, scan the code and listen to / read what is revealed.
We invite you to get a bit lost, a little bit endangered, like the languages you will be hearing.
Find your way, don’t be afraid to ask staff and locals for guidance (some of these locations may be hard to find!). Find the signs, find the Endangered Languages. There is no right or wrong order in which to explore this trail.
When you are ready, find the red square on the map to hear an ocean of endangered languages moving around the world. Thank you for listening.
Note: If you’re unable to visit the locations in person, you can still explore their content through the accessible menu at the bottom of this page.

Listening guidelines

To experience the listening trail, we recommend headphones and a smartphone or device that can scan QR codes.

Feel free to close your eyes and de-centre yourself as you listen - know you’re just one drop in an ocean of languages.

Do not exoticise, contextualise.

Respect voices as your equal, not spectacles, and be aware of how the landscape of languages has been shaped by power and culture.

Explore getting lost and found, and what listening in this context reveals.
